The riding program at Willow Pond teaches students self-discipline, patience, perseverance and attention to detail, while building their self esteem, and encouraging the development of independent thinking and problem solving skills. These qualities become values which can be drawn upon throughout the student's life.

The Riding School environment and training approach is motivated by the intention to create physically and mentally healthy riders and horses. The goal is to create a partnership between horse and rider through the language of horsemanship, patience, and consistent work. These combined skills enhance communication, which allows them to culture a deep and rewarding relationship. This kind and encouraging format helps riders find the joy in the incremental successes of each day.

Because we have a varied herd of school horses, each student gets the opportunity to work with many different horses, which greatly improves their riding ability and knowledge of horse behavior. The students learn how to tack and care for horses in a complete and holistic manner. Riding is only one part of the experience at Willow Pond.

Our Instructors:

Marie Roussel
Marie started riding when she was 6 years old in France, and after
moving to the U.S. at age 9, the only thing missing from her life were
the horses. After a year or so of learning english, it was finally possible
to take lessons again  and she hasn't stopped since. Marie has been
teachingfor 5 years, and teaches students from the very beginner rider
to riders who are current ly successfullycompeting in 3-day eventing,
including one who is leasing one of her horses, Chase. Marie also trains
horses, including her own horse Ace, who she bought as an unbroke 3 year old
and continues to train to becomea 3-day eventing horse.
Marie will be available for lessons at Willow Pond Tuesdays and Thursdays
through Sundays. Call her cell at (650) 804-2318, or at the Barn (831) 464-2276

Jessica Kipp
Jessica has been riding since the age of 10, and has been teaching
for 5 years. Her first riding instructor, a German native, taught all
of her students 3-day eventing with a strong dressage background.
Jessica soon gravitated towards dressage, and now trains with USDF
Gold Medalist, “L” certified judge, and Grand Prix competitor
Joan Williams. In addition to lessons, Jessica trains horses –
from the young prospect to the horse needing a tune-up. A limited
number of full- and half- training openings are available; please
contact Jessica for more information. When not teaching or training,
Jessica trains and competes her 8 year old Dutch Warmblood, Ticino.
